Handmade Dove Grey Glazed Bud Vase

This dove grey glazed bud vase is handmade by Claire and Hugh Pottery.

Claire and Hugh make pottery from their studio in Barcombe, near Lewes, East Sussex. Together they began collaborating on projects in 2020; throwing pots on the wheel, hand-building pieces using traditional techniques and experimenting with playful decoration. They were both furloughed during Covid, which gave them the time and space to fully immerse themselves in pottery and develop their practice together. 

Their pieces use simple, functional forms, decorated with natural textures, glazes and mark making. The slowness of the ceramic process allows pieces to evolve naturally.

The handmade nature of their work means that every pot is unique; you can see the fingerprints left behind in the glazing process around the bottom of their pots as a feature.

These bud vases are made from stoneware clay, from South Staffordshire, fired up to a top temperature of 1220 degrees celsius. A subtle, organic fleck develops when the vase is fired. Stoneware clay is durable and can be put in the dishwasher. These pots are intended to be used, enjoyed and lived with every day.
