In response to Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Rana Begum depicts two contrasting colours in juxtaposition with one another, reducing its protagonists, or its themes of love and death, to geometric abstractions. This minimal approach strips back the dramatic story to its core; a romantic tragedy. Interested in geometry, colour and light, Begum explores urban architecture and traditional Islamic art to create spatial and visual experiences.
