About the Artwork:
One of the animals depicted on the selection of 6″ ruby lustre tiles which includes sits alongside a bird and fish, wild boar, bird with nut, lynx and griffin. It is almost as if the Pegasus had wandered off this tile set is set in a bespoke copper frame. Dated within the period 1872 – 1907.
Long honoured also as a constellation Pegasus is a subject of very rich iconography, especially through ancient Greek pottery as well as paintings and sculptures of the Renaissance. Linked to the myth of bringing forth water, Pegasus is an important story in the works of De Morgan and this heritage collection.
