Expressing love’s potency and the tragedy of loss and grief in response to Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Amy Beager uses joyous vibrant yellow, sickly green hues and melancholic blues to describe its emotional complexities. Gestural hands and faces float upwards towards the top of the composition in sweeping brush strokes, suggesting movement into another world. The female figure cradles something in her arms, which is perhaps an indefinable yearning.
