Nick Bodimeade feels the relationship between the experience of landscape, how it seems to affect one psychologically and physically simultaneously, and the almost magical creation of illusionary space on the flat surface of a painting, has always fascinated him. Nick likes the idea of landscape as a stage anticipating the drama to come and what that drama may be is hinted at in the paintings through the combinations of physical gesture, colour, form and impression. The blank canvas becoming a parallel space in which the performance of the painting is enacted.

About The Artist

Nick Bodimeade

Nick Bodimeade (b.1957) lives and works on a meander-core island on the River Ouse flood plain near Lewes. On leaving Wolverhampton Art College in the 1970s, Bodimeade supported his painting by working as a tractor driver and shepherd in Sussex and Wales. This direct engagement with landscape has been a formative influence on his painting, and coupled with many years teaching at a number of UK art schools and universities, this has provided the grounding for his current full time painting practice. He has work in many public and private collections, including The Government Art Collection, The Contemporary Art Society, the Landmark Trust, Blackwell Science, and the Chichester Medical Education Centre. Bodimeade exhibits regularly in London and further afield, and is represented by Zimmer Stewart Gallery, St Anne’s Galleries, Porthminster Gallery and Sarah O’Kane Contemporary Fine Art.
