About The Artist

Nick Carrick

Nick Carrick (b.1979) lives and works in Hove. He studied at Chelsea School of Art and Design and Coventry University, where he completed his BA Hons in Fine Art. He has exhibited widely both in the UK and internationally, with regular appearances at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Eagle Gallery and St Anne’s Galleries in Lewes. In 2017, Carrick was selected by artist Tom Hammick for a group show at Towner Eastbourne alongside works by Turner, Edvard Munch and Emma Stibbons and last year, Carrick’s work featured as part of a major touring exhibition of Contemporary British Painting across China. Carrick’s practice draws on thought and memory with reworkings of everyday scenes, landscapes and objects rendered in uncanny ways. His works render nature as all encompassing - he reveals the charged energy of a night spent under the stars and the conflict between the vastness of time versus the monumentality of a single lived experience. There is something cinematic about Carrick’s paintings, a collage of ordinary things made extraordinary, dreamlike and mystical.
