Glyndebourne Festival 2022 Programme Book is available for pre-order.
Programmes will be dispatched in May 2022.
The Glyndebourne Festival Programme Book has been published annually since 1952 with beautifully illustrated articles to complement the season's repertoire.
We are very pleased to reveal the cover of the Festival 2022 Programme Book, in a season when we are marking 70 years of its publication. The cover artwork is The Night of the Lotus Eaters by Maggi Hambling, and the painting will be at the centre of a new exhibition of her work at Glyndebourne this summer.
‘I was delighted to be invited’ she says. One of the greatest artists and queer icons of her generation, Hambling continues to provoke and seduce with her fearless approach to themes including death, war, sex, the sea, climate change and music. Spread across three spaces, the Glyndebourne exhibition includes a series of new paintings and ink drawings that speak to her long-standing interest in performance and theatre. ‘Life is full of uncertainty, comedy and tragedy. But on stage, like in painting, you can get there very quickly’ she says.
