About The Designer

Cornelia James

Cornelia James had studied art and design in Vienna and arrived in England as a refugee in 1939. After the war, in a world made drab by rationing, the leather gloves that she made in a huge range of colours became fashion essentials. Vogue magazine profiled her as “the colour Queen of England” and Cornelia quickly established a thriving business supplying gloves to couturiers and leading stores. In 1947 Norman Hartnell asked Cornelia to provide the gloves for the 'going-away' outfit he made for Princess Elizabeth after her marriage to Lt. Philip Mountbatten. It marked the beginning of a long association with the Royal Household marked, in 1979, by the granting of a Royal Warrant. Today it is Genevieve James, Cornelia’s daughter, who holds the Warrant as glove manufacturer ‘by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen’.

A merino wool glove with a rich matching faux fur cuff. Designed to segue perfectly with the sleeve of your coat to keep the winter chill at bay. No more awkward draughts. Four button length gloves, meaning that the glove finishes four inches below the base of the thumb.

These gloves are enhanced with HeiQ Viroblock silver based anti viral technology. A silver and vesicle based technology developed by HeiQ of Zurich, Switzerland, designed to promote the rapid breakdown viruses and microbes on contact. The treatment is applied to fabric in the mill after dyeing, and has no effect on the look or feel.

Made from pure merino wool.

Made in the UK.

Specialist dry clean only

The gloves are die cut using a manually operated lever press made by WH Hallett & Sons of Yeovil, Somerset over 100 years ago. Not interested in mass production or section work, the Cornelia James team make a complete glove from start to finish so that they take ownership and so that each pair can be offered with pride.
